Terms of Service
These terms are the agreement between you and PaintedApp, LLC, which runs Painted Skies. Buying from us, or using the site, means you accept them. If you don't, please don't order.

What you are buying
A Painted Skies print is a chart of the sky over one place at one minute, printed on the paper or canvas you choose, or sent to you as a Digital File. You give us the place, the minute and how it should look; the positions of the stars, the Sun, the Moon and the planets are computed from published astronomical data, and the print is drawn from the same settings you saw in the studio.
A print shows the sky. It doesn't name a star, register one, or sell one, and nothing we make claims to. No star can be named by purchase: the International Astronomical Union does not recognise bought names.
Your print is computed, not made by an image generator. The colour of the As Seen ground is a model of a clear sky, not a photograph of the evening you chose.
You must be 18 or older, or the age of majority where you live, to order.
Made to order
Every print is drawn and printed for your sky alone. Nothing is held in stock and nothing can be resold, so please check the date, time, place and options before you pay. Your order goes to the print lab after payment, so a print can't be cancelled or returned once it's under way, except where the fault is ours or the law says otherwise. The shipping and returns page sets out what we do when something goes wrong.
If something arrives wrong
If your print arrives damaged, defective, or not what you ordered, write to us within 30 days of delivery with a photograph and we'll remake it or refund you. That is our own promise, and it sits on top of your statutory rights, which nothing here reduces.
Your sky, your rights
The details you enter stay yours. You grant us only what we need to draw, print and deliver your order. There are no uploads here: you give us a place, a minute, your choices, a name, an address and an email, never a photograph.
Your purchase licenses the print for personal use: hang it, give it, photograph it. It doesn't transfer copyright in our artwork, layouts or software, and it doesn't license commercial use, resale or merchandise. If you'd like a commercial arrangement, write to us and ask.
The Digital File
A Digital File is the print-ready JPEG of your sky, sent as a download link on the page after you pay and by email, instead of being printed. Nothing is shipped. Your purchase licenses the file for personal use: print it as often as you like for yourself, frame it, and give the prints you make as gifts. It doesn't license resale, commercial use or merchandise, or passing the file on for other people to print. If the file is faulty or isn't the sky you set, write to us within 30 days and we'll fix it or refund you.
Gift codes
A gift code pays for one print or one Digital File on this site, up to the amount it was bought for. It covers the item, not the shipping, which is paid at checkout. It works once: if the item costs less than the code, the difference doesn't carry over and can't be used later. Codes don't expire and have no cash value, and they work only here, not in any other shop.
The code is emailed to the person who bought it, to pass on. Anyone who has the code can use it, so keep it as you would a gift card; we can't replace a code someone else has already used. The names and message on a gift note are the buyer's own words, and we don't check or edit them.
Fair use of the site
Please don't scrape the site, resell access to it, or use it to produce anything unlawful, including place names or captions that use someone else's trademark or impersonate a real person. We may decline or refund any order at our discretion.
The honest limits
Each print is computed from published astronomical data. Even so: screens and paper differ; star brightness is drawn to be legible rather than photometrically exact; the As Seen colour is a model that knows nothing of the weather; planet positions are only trusted between 1800 and 2050; and a place name resolves to a coordinate that may sit a short distance from where you picture it. A print is a work of art built on real astronomy, not a scientific instrument, and it should not be relied on for navigation, timing, or any decision that matters.
The site and everything on it are provided as they are, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim arising out of an order or these terms will not exceed what you paid for the order it concerns, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Prices and payment
Prices are shown before you pay, and Stripe's checkout page shows the full total, including any shipping, before you confirm. Stripe charges your card; we never see or store your card details. Prodigi or Printful prints and ships each print, whichever gets it to you for less, and shipping is charged at what that lab charges to send it, with nothing added. Import duties, where they apply, are the recipient's responsibility.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and disputes will be heard there, except where consumer-protection law where you live gives you the right to bring proceedings in your own country. Before filing anything, please write to us so we can try to settle it directly.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top always says when. Orders are governed by the terms in force when you placed them.
